UV Light Air Purifier

Improve the indoor air quality in your home and kill airborne pathogens with a state-of-the-art UV light air purifier. We can recommend you one today!

Ultraviolet Air Purification

UV light air purifiers are a great option for air purification and disinfection. UV light air purifiers operate a bit differently than other air purifiers. UV light air purifiers not only filter out more than 99% of airborne pathogens including bacteria, viruses, and mold, but they also kill them by utilizing UV-C. These units can be installed in different ways for ultimate effectiveness and often complement other purification systems.

If you’re interested in adding a UV light air purifier to your home, “Don’t call the other guy, call MHI!” Our contractors are highly experienced in all types of air purifiers, including UV light air purifiers. We’ve been serving the Portland OR area for nearly 50 years, and we’d love to help improve the indoor air quality in your home.

What is a UV Light Air Purifier?

A UV light air purifier utilizes UV-C light. UV-C light harms cells by destroying nucleic acid and disrupting their DNA. The process, called photocatalytic oxidation either kills the cells or leaves them incapacitated. Here’s how UV light air purifiers work.

  1. Air is pulled into the unit and passed through a fine filter, such as a HEPA filter.
  2. Air then passes through a chamber where bulbs generating UV-C light are located.
  3. The intensity of the UV-C light kills pathogens as they move through the chamber.
  4. Depending on the model, air may then pass through another filter before it is released into the room.

UV-C light is not released into the room, so your family will not be exposed to it.

Do HVAC UV Light Purifiers Really Work?

Yes, UV light air purifiers are very effective in killing pollutants such as mold, mildew, and bacteria. They do this by breaking down their RNA or DNA. The UV light is also helpful in preventing secondary allergies related to airborne allergens.

Keep in mind, these air purifiers are only effective at killing airborne pathogens. If mold has already taken hold to your walls and ceilings, you’ll need to clean it directly.
